Definitions of diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease which, when insufficiently treated or untreated is characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and disordered carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism.

Also be described as a group of chronic metabolic conditions, all of which are characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from the body’s inability to produce insulin or resistance to insulin action, or both.
